Former ADC Reps Aspirant Defects To APC In Kebbi

A former House of Representatives aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, Bashar Geda, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Geda had sought to represent Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Federal Constituency on the platform of the ADC.

He formally announced his defection on Saturday at a gathering in Birnin Kebbi, attended by his supporters, APC members, party leaders and other political stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Geda said his decision to join the ruling party in the state was influenced by what he described as the leadership style and policies of Governor Nasir Idris.

He said he was ready to work with members of the APC and support the party ahead of future political activities in Kebbi State.

The former ADC aspirant said he would remain committed to mobilising support for the governor and strengthening the APC in the state.

“We have less than eight months to the general elections. I will remain in Birnin Kebbi to mobilise support and ensure victory for Governor Idris,” he said.

Geda also called for greater cooperation among political stakeholders, stressing that unity and inclusiveness were necessary for the growth of the state’s political process.

He urged his supporters to work with APC members in their various communities and contribute to the success of the party.

Receiving Geda and his supporters into the APC, Governor Idris welcomed them to the party and assured them of equal opportunities.

The governor said the APC would continue to accommodate individuals willing to contribute to the development of Kebbi State.

He added that the party remained open to people who were ready to participate actively in its political activities and support the administration’s programmes.

Some APC officials who spoke at the event described Geda’s defection as a boost to the party’s membership and political strength in the state.

They said the decision of the former ADC aspirant and his supporters to join the APC showed growing confidence in the leadership of Governor Idris.

The event was attended by party leaders, government officials, youth groups and supporters from different parts of Kebbi State.
