Obi Lacks Popularity In Kano, His Votes Won’t Surpass That Of Atiku, Tinubu – APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ismaeel Ahmed has raised concerns about how a joint presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would perform in Kano State.

Naija News reports that he spoke during a TVC interview and said Peter Obi may be well known in other parts of the country, but his support in Kano is not strong.

According to him, any plan for Obi to contest with Kwankwaso would depend heavily on Kwankwaso’s influence in the state.

Ahmed pointed to the 2023 presidential election, saying Kwankwaso still showed strong strength in Kano, where he reportedly gathered over one million votes. He described this as proof that the former governor still has a strong base among voters in the state.

He also said that the political situation may not be the same in the next election and that past results may not easily repeat.

In his view, the structure of a joint ticket could change how voters respond at the polls.

Ahmed added that if Obi leads the ticket while Kwankwaso plays a secondary role, it may reduce the appeal of the combination in Kano. He argued that many voters in the state may respond more strongly if Kwankwaso is the main candidate instead of a running mate.

Ahmed stated: “While Peter Obi may be very popular in other regions of the country, he certainly lacks that in Kano State. Kwankwaso will bring in a significant number of votes for him, but I doubt that will be enough to surpass the likes of Atiku and Tinubu.”
