I Pray It Doesn’t Happen Again – Igbokwe Speaks On Being Assaulted By Mob At Ladipo Market

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has narrated how he narrowly escaped being attacked by a group of youths at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State.

Naija News reports that the incident reportedly happened on Friday when Igbokwe visited the market to purchase spare parts for his vehicle.

According to a video shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe said some people in the market recognized him while he was searching for the items he needed and began drawing attention to his presence.

He explained that after buying the spare parts and returning to his vehicle, a crowd started gathering around him.

The situation reportedly became tense as more youths joined the group and moved closer to where he was.

Fearing that the situation could get out of control, Igbokwe said he left the area and sought refuge in a friend’s shop within the market.

He disclosed that market leaders were later contacted and intervened to calm the situation before escorting him out safely.

The APC chieftain said that after the intervention, he came out of hiding and noticed a large crowd around him.

He added that many people were speaking angrily, but he chose not to respond and instead left the market peacefully in his vehicle.

He said: “I went to Ladipo Market to get some spare parts for my vehicle. While looking for the parts, some people started calling my name and pointing fingers at me. I ignored them and continued searching for what I wanted.

“After getting the parts and returning to my vehicle, the Ladipo boys started gathering and shouting, ‘This is the Igbokwe, this is the Igbokwe.’ I ignored them at first, but they kept coming, so I moved to my friend’s shop.

“My friend contacted the market leadership and when I came out, people gathered and were saying different things, but I did not respond and simply drove away. I later saw reports on Facebook claiming that I was beaten, but I was not beaten. I pray that it does not happen again. I know what to do.”
