Shakira, Burna Boy To Perform Official 2026 World Cup Song At Opening Ceremony

FIFA has confirmed that Colombian pop star Shakira will perform the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico.

The singer will take to the stage alongside Burna Boy on June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. The pair will perform “Dai Dai”, the tournament’s official song released in May. The Italian phrase translates to “let’s go” or “come on”.

The opening ceremony will begin 90 minutes before kick-off and will be the first of several ceremonies staged before opening matches in each of the three host nations: the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In a statement, FIFA said the ceremony would showcase some of the biggest names in world music.

“The opening ceremony at Mexico City Stadium will get underway 90 minutes before kick-off,” the statement said.

“As previously announced, the show will feature some of the most exciting voices in global music, including Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Burna Boy, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Shakira, and Tyla, all of whom will bring the sound of the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album to life.”

FIFA said “Dai Dai” serves as the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Song in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise 100 million US dollars by the end of the tournament to help provide children worldwide with access to quality education and football opportunities.

Shakira is also set for another major appearance during the competition. The singer will headline the FIFA World Cup final halftime show on 19 July alongside Madonna and BTS.

FIFA has urged supporters attending the opening match to arrive early and take part in the festivities.

“Fans at the stadium will actively participate in the show and should plan to arrive early, as the opening ceremony will begin at 11:30 local time. Gates will open four hours prior to kick-off, and a full suite of experiences will be on offer, including exclusive activation, rewards, and pre-match entertainment,” FIFA said.
