Defections: Political Realities Will Soon Catch Up With Obi – Arabambi

Factional Labour Party National Vice Chairman (South West), Abayomi Arabambi, has said that the defection of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is not the end of his political journey.

Naija News reports that Arabambi made the comment during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke about Obi becoming the presidential candidate of the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He stated that Obi’s defection to the new party may not give him a lasting political home, adding that those still in the Labour Party structure could react strongly to how he left and what followed after his exit.

According to him, a politician cannot weaken a platform and expect to move on without facing political reactions later. He added that the political environment is competitive and success cannot come without wide public backing.

He said: “Peter Obi’s move to the NDC is not his final destination. If he thinks he has found a safe haven after destabilising the Labour Party, he may soon face serious political pushback from those still within the party structure.

“He cannot weaken a platform and simply move on without consequences, as internal political realities will eventually catch up with him.

“Ultimately, the political space is competitive, and no one can impose themselves without broad acceptance.

“However, the final decision rests with Nigerians, and no candidate can become president without addressing issues of governance, accountability, and the fight against corruption,” he said.
