2027: ‘Ensure Peter Obi Is On The Ballot’ – Tanko

The Obidient Movement has urged members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in today’s primary election.

Naija News reports that the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, made the appeal in a statement issued ahead of the NDC primaries scheduled for May 29, 2026.

Tanko urged Obidient members and NDC faithful to remain united, disciplined and focused behind Obi.

Tanko said the convergence of Obidient supporters under the NDC was deliberate and strategic.

He stated, “As we proceed into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries scheduled for today, May 29, 2026, we, members of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, wish to make a sincere but strong appeal to all NDC party aspirants and members for unity, discipline, maturity, sacrifice, and focus.

“We must remember that our convergence under the NDC is deliberate and strategic.

“Our collective objective is to ensure that the candidature of His Excellency Mr Peter Obi is on the ballot for the 2027 general elections.”

Tanko appealed to aspirants and members not to allow personal ambition to derail the movement’s collective goal.

He said the mission remained to rescue Nigeria through leadership rooted in competence and compassion.

Tanko further stated, “Our mission is to rescue Nigeria through people-oriented leadership built on character, competence, capacity, commitment, and compassion.

“As we embark on the NDC party primaries today, we must bear in mind that it will not be possible for all contestants to emerge victorious. In every democratic process, winners and losers will emerge.”

Movement Warns Against Litigation

Tanko said grievances arising from the primary should be handled through the party’s internal mechanisms.

He warned aspirants against resorting to court cases, saying litigation could weaken the party’s collective mission.

Taanko stated, “As loyal party members, we must not permit temporary disappointments arising from political aspirations to derail our mission and the unity we have carefully built.

“We want to encourage everyone contesting that any concerns, grievances, or observations arising from today’s exercise should be addressed through the party’s internal mechanisms. We must avoid resorting to court litigation, as this is inimical to the progress of our collective resolve.”

The Obidient coordinator warned that political opponents were monitoring the NDC for any internal crisis they could exploit.

He urged members to close ranks after the primaries and focus on the 2027 presidential election.

Tanko added, “Shortly after the primaries, our attention must be directed toward closing ranks and working together to achieve our collective mission of securing victory in the 2027 presidential elections and building a new Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.

“A New Nigeria is Possible.”
