NFF Make Approach To Newcastle Striker William Osula

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has opened talks with Newcastle United forward, William Osula over a potential switch of international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria.

William Osula, 22, was born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, leaving him eligible to represent three countries at the senior level.

He has featured for Denmark at the youth level and was called up for the March fixtures against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic but did not make his senior debut.

Football journalist Farzam Abolhosseini revealed the development on 𝕏, saying Nigeria had reached out to the striker through his background.

“William Osula has been contacted by the Nigerian Football Federation through his background, who want the bomber from Newcastle to represent the African country instead of Denmark,” Abolhosseini wrote.
“He was selected for the Danish national team in March, but did not make his debut.”

Osula remains eligible for France, although Nigeria appear keen to move quickly while the striker is yet to commit at the senior level.

Elsewhere, Hamburger SV have until 15 June to decide whether to make the loan move for Nigerian winger Philip Otele permanent. The Bundesliga side paid a €1 million loan fee to sign him from FC Basel in January and must now pay €4.5 million to complete the transfer.

German outlet Bild reports that talks are pencilled in for May, with no final decision yet taken.

Otele’s recent red card in the derby defeat to Werder Bremen means he is serving a two-match suspension. He has contributed one goal and one assist in nine appearances so far.

Head coach Merlin Polzin has previously praised the winger, saying: “He’s a great asset to our team up front. We’ll certainly get a lot of enjoyment out of him.”
