Gov Sule Denies Meeting With Atiku In Saudi Arabia

The Nasarawa State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Abdullahi Sule held a secret meeting with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the lesser Hajj.

The government also refuted claims that the governor pledged financial support to back efforts aimed at defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ibrahim Addra, the report was described as entirely false.

According to him, “a complete fabrication, false in its entirety, and did not happen.”

He stressed that Governor Sule neither met with Atiku nor any of his associates during the religious exercise.

The statement further noted that the governor has consistently used public platforms to commend the leadership of President Tinubu and reaffirm his loyalty to the administration.

It added that there had been no deviation from Sule’s known political alignment.

The Nasarawa State Government accused unnamed political actors of attempting to undermine the relationship between the governor and the President.

It, however, expressed confidence that such efforts would not succeed.

The statement also cited a reaction from Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who reportedly said he was unaware of any such meeting.

Reiterating its position, the state government maintained that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress remain united in their support for President Tinubu.

It added that no amount of false reporting would weaken their loyalty or commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Naija News reports that the clarification comes shortly after details emerged about an alleged meeting between the Nasarawa State Governor and Atiku in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, during the recent lesser hajj (Umrah).

According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the meeting reportedly took place on March 11, 2026, at the Conrad Jabal Omar Hotel in Mecca, during an iftar dinner in the holy month of Ramadan.

Sources cited in the report claimed that the meeting lasted about two hours and focused on political developments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The report alleged that the meeting centred on possible political collaboration aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Atiku, who joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2025 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is believed to be considering another presidential bid.

Sources quoted in the report claimed that Governor Sule expressed support for Atiku’s ambition and pledged to help him secure votes in Nasarawa State.
