Carragher Rates Salah Above Ronaldo, Others In Premier League History
Former Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher, has declared that departing Reds winger, Mohamed Salah, has surpassed the Premier League legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Carragher made the assertion in his column for The Telegraph following Salah’s announcement that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.
The former defender ranked Salah among the greatest overseas attackers to have played in England, insisting that only Thierry Henry stands above the Egyptian.
“In the pantheon of overseas attacking players to have excelled in England, only Thierry Henry eclipses Salah,” Carragher wrote.
Carragher also waved aside comparisons between Salah and other Premier League icons, including Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp, and Eric Cantona.
According to him, none of the aforementioned players matched Salah’s level of sustained excellence in the English top flight.
‘Salah Edges Ronaldo’
Explaining his position, Carragher argued that Ronaldo’s peak years were largely spent outside England, particularly during his spell with Real Madrid.
“Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United, both initially and upon his return, was either side of his absolute, Real Madrid-peak years,” Carragher noted.
“Salah edges ahead of him when judging strictly on Premier League performance and impact.”
Since his £34m move from AS Roma to Liverpool in 2017, Salah has delivered remarkable numbers in the Premier League.
The Egyptian forward has recorded 189 goals and 92 assists, more than any other player in the competition within that period, cementing his status as one of the league’s most dominant attacking forces in recent history.
His consistency and influence have been widely credited as key to Liverpool’s successes over the years, further strengthening arguments about his place among the Premier League’s all-time greats.
