Werder Bremen Admit Victor Boniface Loan Gamble Failed, Fulham Eye Chukwueze Deal
Werder Bremen have conceded their summer loan move for Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface failed to deliver, with sporting director Clemens Fritz admitting the plan has not worked out.
Victor Boniface arrived from Bayer Leverkusen on a temporary deal, tasked with sharpening Bremen’s attack. Instead, injuries and patchy minutes stalled his momentum, leaving the striker short of his best.
Fritz, speaking to German outlet Mopo, said the club knowingly took a calculated risk.
He said, “On one hand, we wanted to develop Keke, and on the other hand, we also wanted to get the good qualities that Victor definitely has.”
The move, however, has fallen short of expectations.
“As things stand now, we have to say that it hasn’t worked out in that form,” he said.
Boniface has struggled to make a mark at the Weserstadion, managing just two assists in 11 Bundesliga outings. His campaign has been further disrupted by a knee injury, casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, in England, Fulham are pushing to sign Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze on a permanent deal.
The winger joined the London side on loan from AC Milan last summer, with an option to buy included in the agreement.
Reports from Italy claim Fulham are ready to trigger that clause, with a fee of €24m on the table.
Chukwueze has impressed at Craven Cottage, contributing three goals and four assists in 17 league appearances under Marco Silva.
