Coach Almeyda Hails Lamine Yamal As World’s Best Ahead Of Barcelona Vs Sevilla Clash

Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda has praised Lamine Yamal, describing the FC Barcelona teenager as the best player in the world ahead of their La Liga meeting.

Barcelona hosts Sevilla FC at Camp Nou on Sunday as the league leaders look to bounce back after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.

The Catalan side will be favourites against a Sevilla team currently sitting 14th in the table, but Almeyda believes Barcelona’s strength goes far beyond one player.

Speaking before the match, the Argentine coach singled out Yamal for special praise, highlighting the youngster’s rapid development.

“Currently, he is among the best in the world; he is young and gets better every day. For me, he is the best player in the world today. It is a joy to see him play, but he is not their only talent. They have another in midfield, and even more on the bench,” Almeyda told Barca Universal.

The Sevilla boss also acknowledged the challenge awaiting his side at Camp Nou, pointing to Barcelona’s consistency both in Spain and across Europe.

“Barcelona, even when fatigued, consistently performs at an outstanding level from any viewpoint. The match will differ from the home game,” the coach said.

“We will attempt to replicate similar strategies, but we are also conscious that it has been 23 and a half years since we last triumphed there. That is a significant duration. Some of the players have never experienced it. We are going to face the best team in La Liga and one of the best in Europe.”

Despite being just 18, Yamal has already established himself as one of football’s brightest stars. The Spain international finished runner-up in the Ballon d’Or voting last season and continues to impress this term.

Across all competitions, the winger has scored 20 goals and provided 15 assists in 37 appearances.
