Lagos APC Returns Ojelabi, Others Unopposed At State Congress
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has been re-elected for a second term in office.
Naija News reports that Ojelabi emerged on Tuesday at the party’s state congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, amid a consensus arrangement that saw over 2,000 delegates from across the state endorse the new executive.
The exercise, described by party leaders as peaceful and orderly, reaffirmed Lagos’ dominance in the ruling party’s structure.
No fewer than 2,000 accredited delegates participated in the congress, returning Ojelabi and other state executive members through voice affirmation.
Announcing the consensus list, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, declared that the process complied strictly with the party’s constitutional provisions.
She described Lagos as the “heartbeat of progressive politics and the proud home of President Bola Tinubu,” noting that the state remained central to the party’s national strength.
“The strength of Lagos is a vital part of our party. It is vital to the strength of our party nationwide,” Okotete said.
According to her, the congress was conducted in line with Article 20 of the party’s constitution and approved guidelines.
“The congress must be democratic, transparent and in strict compliance with the Constitution of our party. When consensus is adopted, it must follow due process as described,” she stated.
Emphasising unity, she added, “This congress is not a contest of enemies. It is a contest of progressive family members united by ideology.”
Alongside Ojelabi, other members of the State Executive Committee were also returned through consensus.
They include Deputy Chairman, Moshood Mayegun; Secretary, Dr Adeola Jokomba; and Publicity Secretary, Mr Oluseye Oladejo.
Others are Legal Adviser, Mrs Folashade Bakare; Treasurer, Mr Abiodun Ayigbe; Financial Secretary, Mr Banjo Adedoyin-Wasiu; Organising Secretary, Mr Ayodele Adewale; and Youth Leader, Mr Seriki Muritala, among others.
In her address before the endorsement, Okotete reminded aspirants and delegates that eligibility to contest and vote was strictly guided by the party’s constitution.
According to her, only registered members who had fulfilled all requirements, including payment of prescribed fees and compliance with eligibility conditions, were qualified to participate.
“The processes are binding on all members, and everyone must collectively respect the outcome,” she said.
She added that the committee’s mandate was to ensure “a peaceful, credible and orderly congress that reflects the unity and maturity of our great party.”
“I urge our aspirants today to demonstrate sportsmanship and our delegates to vote with conscience and commitment to the continued growth of APC in Lagos State,” she said.
Okotete further stressed that leadership within the party was about service, noting that unity remained its greatest strength.
“Let this congress further consolidate our progressive mantra and strengthen our structure in support of the renewal agenda of our President,” she said.
