Gov Yusuf Reacts As Another Kano Commissioner Resigns
Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has resigned from his position.
Naija News reports that his resignation was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the governor received Doguwa’s resignation letter on Monday, March 2, 2026, with effect from Tuesday.
Doguwa’s resignation comes on the heels of similar exits by three other commissioners in the state executive council.
They include the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (retd.); the Commissioner for Special Duties, Nasiru Sule Garo; and the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata.
The latest development has fuelled speculation about an ongoing restructuring within the Kano State cabinet, although the government has not officially described the resignations as part of a broader shake-up.
The statement said Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Doguwa for what he described as his dedicated service to the state.
The governor noted that within one year of heading the Ministry of Water Resources, notable progress was recorded in the rehabilitation of water facilities across the state.
According to him, efforts were also made to expand the potable water supply to several communities, improving access to clean water for residents.
He added that Doguwa’s leadership helped strengthen institutional capacity within the ministry and enhanced service delivery.
Governor Yusuf wished Doguwa success in his future endeavours and announced an interim arrangement to ensure continuity in the ministry’s operations.
He directed the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
The development marks the fourth high-profile exit from the Kano State Executive Council in recent weeks, as political observers continue to monitor changes within the administration.
