Kwankwaso: My Humility Not Cowardice – Says Kano Gov Yusuf
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to put aside personal differences and support his administration’s efforts to build a peaceful and progressive state.
Yusuf made the appeal during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration, where he said the interest of Kano must be placed above political disagreements and personal considerations.
The governor said his administration remained committed to promoting unity, peace and stability across the state, adding that all political leaders must work together to move Kano forward.
“I call on him to look at Kano, not personal interests, and come on board to join the train of peace and a new Kano that will ensure a stable and progressive state,” the governor said.
Yusuf noted that reconciliation among political leaders had become common across the country, especially where such moves were considered necessary for governance, peace and development.
He said leaders in different parts of the country had resolved their differences in the larger interest of their people, adding that Kano should not be an exception.
The governor expressed surprise over Kwankwaso’s absence at a recent public event attended by several political leaders, including governors who had reconciled with their former political rivals and deputies.
According to him, Kano needs the support of all stakeholders to overcome its challenges and build a state that will serve the interests of every resident.
He maintained that his administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes aimed at strengthening unity among the people.
‘My Humility Not Cowardice’
The governor also used the occasion to respond to those who, according to him, may have mistaken his calm disposition for weakness.
Yusuf said his humility was part of his personal character and closeness to the people, not a sign of fear.
“I have never feared anybody in my life. My humility is not cowardice but a reflection of my good nature and closeness to the people,” he stated.
The governor said his administration inherited a state confronted by several problems but had continued to introduce reforms and corrective measures without creating unnecessary tension or division.
He added that his government would not be distracted from its mission to restore confidence, deepen peace and reposition Kano for development.
Speaking on the suspension of the Hawan Daushe procession two years ago, Yusuf said the decision was taken because of security concerns.
He explained that the move was not targeted at anyone but was meant to prevent violence and protect lives.
The governor said safeguarding the lives and property of the people remained one of the most important responsibilities of his administration.
He assured residents that his government would continue to make decisions that promote peace, even when such decisions may not be popular with everyone.
Yusuf also praised the Emir of Kano for his guidance and support, describing the traditional ruler as a symbol of wisdom, unity and stability.
He assured the Emir of the continued support of his administration for the traditional institution, saying the government would continue to work with traditional leaders to promote peace and preserve the cultural heritage of the state.
The governor expressed confidence that future durbar celebrations in Kano would return in grand style and further showcase the rich history, culture and traditions of the ancient city.
He said his administration remained committed to building a Kano where peace, unity and development would take priority over political rivalry.
