Premier League Delete Post Mocking Tottenham Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After Club Complaint
The Premier League has deleted a social media post that appeared to mock Guglielmo Vicario following a complaint from Tottenham Hotspur and a wave of online criticism.
The league’s official 𝕏 account shared a short clip on Sunday night showing Vicario launching a free-kick the length of the pitch during Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage. The ball sailed straight out for a goal-kick.
The caption read: “Just how the play was drawn up.” It added: “An interesting free-kick from Vicario” and ended with “Whoops.”
The post was swiftly condemned and removed on Monday morning, March 2.
Tottenham contacted the league to express their dissatisfaction, arguing that the competition’s official platform should not be ridiculing its own players. The clip had already drawn hundreds of thousands of views before it was taken down.
Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Fulham FC on Sunday, deepening the gloom around the club. Goals from Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi inside the opening 34 minutes left the visitors chasing the game. Richarlison pulled one back after the break, but it proved a consolation.
The result leaves Tottenham four points above the relegation zone. They have lost four league matches in a row and are without a win in 10.
