‘NFF Reviewing Eric Chelle’s Fresh Contract Proposal Amid Renewal Talks’

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently reviewing a fresh set of proposals submitted by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle as discussions over his future gather pace.

A member of the federation’s board confirmed that Eric Chelle has formally tabled new terms ahead of a possible contract renewal, including a significant adjustment to his monthly salary from 50,000 dollars to 130,000 dollars. The proposed figure would also cover his assistants.

The matter, however, remains under internal review and will be examined by the technical committee before it reaches the full board for consideration.

Chelle still has one year left on his existing deal, but his future has been the subject of growing debate since Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

The Super Eagles impressed during the tournament, going unbeaten in seven matches and scoring 14 goals, their highest tally in a single AFCON campaign. Their only defeat came via penalties to hosts Morocco in the semi-final.

While the NFF president has previously spoken of a desire to continue working with Chelle, the coach’s new conditions have introduced a fresh layer of negotiation.

“Let us not forget that Chelle still has one year left on his current contract. These are fresh demands to be considered for renewal, which remains subject to debate, especially with these terms. This is for the technical committee to review before presenting to the board for approval,” the NFF board member told The Punch.

“Before now, the NFF president has publicly expressed our desire to keep working with him. When the time comes, we will meet again to discuss the new situation.”

Naija News reports that Eric Chelle’s 19-point proposal covers more than financial adjustments. Among the requests are a private SUV with a chauffeur and security detail, accommodation in a well-secured area with a steady power supply, and a furnished office equipped with a projector for tactical analysis.

He is also said to be seeking influence in arranging friendly matches, autonomy in team selection, structured access to domestic league fixtures for scouting, and inclusion of his personal assistant in the bonus and allowance framework.

The review comes amid reported interest from Tunisia, where the salary on offer is believed to be around 100,000 dollars per month. There have also been loose suggestions of opportunities in France.

Off the pitch, Chelle recently ended his working relationship with former agent Abraham Sidibe and has signed with Wilders Sport in Marseille.

“It is time for me to take myself to another level. I felt that this agency would give me the required support and advice that I need to do this,” Chelle was quoted as saying by UK-based journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
