Tottenham Hotspur Confirm Appointment Of Igor Tudor As New Manager
Tottenham Hotspur have turned to former Juventus manager Igor Tudor in a bid to steady the ship, confirming the Croatian will lead the club until the end of the season.
Naija News reports that the north London side are battling to pull clear of trouble after the dismissal of Thomas Frank earlier this week. Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League table, only five points above the relegation zone, and the immediate task for Igor Tudor is to stop the drop.
“Igor joins us with a clear focus: to improve performances, deliver results and move us up the Premier League table,” Tottenham Hotspur said in a statement.
“His mandate is straightforward – bring organisation, intensity and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign.”
Tudor, who has been out of work since leaving Juventus in October, arrives with a reputation for stepping into difficult situations and restoring order. He did not shy away from the scale of the challenge awaiting him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He said, “It is an honour to join this club at an important moment. I understand the responsibility I have been handed and my focus is clear. To bring greater consistency to our performances and compete with conviction in every match.
“There is a strong quality in this playing squad, and my job is to organise it, energise it and improve our results quickly.”
Spurs’ form has been alarming in recent months. They have managed just two wins in their last 17 league outings, a run that ultimately cost Frank his job following Tuesday’s home defeat to Newcastle.
The club have indicated they will appoint a permanent successor in the summer, with Tudor tasked purely with seeing out the campaign.
Sporting director Johan Lange believes the 47-year-old’s experience will prove decisive over the coming months.
“Igor brings clarity, intensity and experience of stepping into challenging moments and producing impact,” he said.
“Our objective is straightforward, to stabilise performances, maximise the quality within the squad and compete strongly in the Premier League and Champions League.”
Tudor, who has previously managed Juventus, Lazio, Marseille, Galatasaray and Udinese, is known for favouring a three-man defence and a high-tempo approach. His first major test will come against Arsenal on February 22.
