Heavy Gridlock As Bus Catches Fire On Third Mainland Bridge

A commercial bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge near the UNILAG Waterfront, heading toward Iyana Oworo.

Naija News reports that the incident caused long traffic delays on Monday.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident and said fire service teams were on the scene working to control the blaze.

The fire disrupted traffic, with vehicles backed up all the way to Adekunle.

Drivers on the bridge were urged to remain patient while emergency responders continued efforts to put out the fire and clear the route.

At the time of this report, the cause of the fire has not been identified, and authorities are investigating the situation.

Traffic flow is expected to return to normal once the fire is completely extinguished and the bus is removed from the bridge.

In other news, the Lagos State Taskforce has launched a new enforcement exercise along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, targeting commercial motorcycle riders, traffic offenders and illegal roadside structures.

Naija News reports that during the operation, officials seized more than 50 motorcycles and arrested 10 vehicles for traffic violations within the corridor.

The action was made public on Sunday, February 1, 2026, through videos shared on X by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat.

The clips showed taskforce operatives stopping motorcycle riders, removing makeshift structures and enforcing traffic rules along the coastal route.
