Super Falcons Of Nigeria Drawn In Group C For 2026 WAFCON In Morocco
Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi in Group C of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following Thursday’s final draw in Rabat.
The draw marked a historic moment for African women’s football, with the tournament featuring 16 teams for the first time. Morocco will host the expanded edition for the third consecutive time, with matches scheduled from 17 March to 3 April 2026 across Rabat, Casablanca, and Fes.
The Super Falcons will face familiar foes in Zambia’s Copper Queens. Nigeria will enter the group with confidence after a resounding 5-0 quarter-final victory over Zambia at the 2024 WAFCON, which paved the way for their record-extending 10th continental title. That win included a semi-final victory over South Africa and a thrilling comeback against hosts Morocco in the final. Egypt and Malawi round out Group C.
Elsewhere in the tournament, hosts Morocco headline Group A alongside Algeria, Senegal, and Kenya. Group B features former champions South Africa with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania, while Group D pairs Ghana with Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde.
Matches will be staged across four venues: Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium and Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, and Fez Stadium in Fes.
The draw also brought mixed emotions for Nigeria off the pitch. Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu missed out on the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award, with the accolade going to TP Mazembe coach Lamia Boumehdi. Madugu and Morocco coach Jorge Vilda were the other finalists.
The decision surprised many, considering Madugu’s leadership in guiding Nigeria to their 10th WAFCON crown and his nomination as the only African coach for the Women’s Coach of the Year at the Ballon d’Or.
Additionally, CAF honoured Moroccan forward Sanaa Mssoudy as Women’s Interclub Player of the Year, while AS FAR were named Women’s Club of the Year.
