Stay Out Of Rivers Politics, I Won’t Be Buried Politically – Wike Warns Ateke Tom

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has advised the traditional ruler and first Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom to steer clear of political activities in Rivers State.

Naija News reports that Wike gave the advice during a visit to the monarch’s palace as part of his ongoing “thank you” tour of local government areas, beginning with Okrika Local Government Area.

Addressing the monarch, the minister said political activities would soon commence in the state, stressing the need for the kingdom to remain peaceful.

He said decisions had already been taken on how to address pressing political issues in the state, adding that his visit was rooted in a long-standing personal relationship with the monarch.

Wike urged the traditional ruler not to be drawn into partisan politics, even as political tensions rise in the state.

“We will soon start politics. I didn’t say you should be involved, don’t be involved. Allow us to play our politics, stay as a traditional ruler,” Wike said.

“I don’t want anybody to say tomorrow you are putting your hand, don’t put your hands. But that does not mean that you don’t have anybody you support in your heart, but allow us to play our game.”

He added that any issues arising from political activities would be resolved by those directly involved, noting that the monarch could always intervene to call for peace when necessary.

“If there’s any problem, you call us, we will settle, but I want to tell you that it will not be business as usual again,” he said.

While addressing the people of Okrika, Wike said his visit was to appreciate the support he had consistently received from the area and the Ijaw nation at large.

“Why we came is to thank our people who have supported us all this while. The people of Okrika, the people of the Ijaw nation have supported us very, very well, and so I felt it will be good to thank them,” he said.

He added that their support was not taken for granted and pledged continued appreciation.

Wike, who expressed concern over the current political situation in Rivers State, also vowed to resist any attempt to sideline him politically.

“All of us have taken a decision on what to do. I believe those of them who are your children will tell you the decision we have taken, just for your ears, not for you to participate. You are my friend,” he added.
