NPFL Matchweek 16 Fixtures: Title Race Heats Up As Abia Warriors Host Rivers United

The race for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) crown enters a decisive phase this weekend as Matchweek 16 serves up heavyweight clashes, fierce relegation battles and a packed programme across multiple venues.

All eyes turn to Umuahia on Sunday afternoon, where Abia Warriors welcome Rivers United in what promises to be the standout NPFL fixture of the round.

The hosts are desperate for a spark after collecting only two points from their last four matches, while Rivers United arrive with one of the league’s strongest records and unbeaten away form after 13 outings.

Abia Warriors sit sixth with 23 points, but their last win came on 2 November in Minna. Rivers United, widely admired for their balance and consistency in the domestic campaign, have dropped just one league game all season.

Their form at home and on the road tells a different story from their struggles in the CAF Champions League, and many fans are eager to see whether the Pride of Rivers will stretch their impressive run or finally be stopped in Umuahia.

Elsewhere, attention will also fall on Abeokuta as champions Remo Stars look to end a damaging slump when they host Enyimba at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

Remo have lost back-to-back matches, piling pressure on Daniel Ogunmodede and his players to respond.
