Ilechukwu Unsure Over Rangers Future After NPFL Title Win

Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu says he will decide his future at the club after returning from Unity Cup duties with the Super Eagles in London.

Ilechukwu led Rangers to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title on Sunday after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ikorodu City in Lagos.

The win proved decisive as the closest challengers Rivers United F.C. beat Katsina United F.C. 3-0 in Port Harcourt. Rangers eventually finished top with 68 points, just one ahead of Rivers United.

The title was Ilechukwu’s second league crown with Rangers in three seasons and the club’s ninth NPFL triumph, drawing them level with Enyimba F.C. as the most successful side in league history.

Shortly after sealing the title, the coach travelled to London to join Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles as they prepared to defend the Unity Cup title won in 2025.

Despite another successful campaign, Ilechukwu admitted he remains undecided about extending his stay at Rangers, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

“It’s something we will sit down and talk about,” Ilechukwu told Premium Times.

Seriously, I’m not saying that I’m going to stay. I’m not saying I’m not going to stay. But when you have Amobi Ezeaku, I think you have everything. The truth is, I don’t want to work anywhere for more than two years. What I’ve done at Rangers is because of Amobi Ezeaku. It might be goodbye. It might also not be goodbye.

“After coming back from London, I will sit down and reflect on myself, every situation, everything happening around me, things I’m not okay with and things I’m okay with. Maybe yes, maybe no. That is the truth.”

Ilechukwu joined Rangers from Plateau United F.C. ahead of the 2023/24 season and quickly transformed the Flying Antelopes into title contenders again.
