Victor Boniface Not Bothered Over Criticism After Slow Start At Werder Bremen

Nigerian forward, Victor Boniface has brushed aside mounting criticism over his goal drought at Werder Bremen, saying he remains focused on improving and proving his worth to the team.

Naija News reports that Victor Boniface joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer but has yet to score in seven appearances. His dry spell has drawn concern from fans and pundits who expected him to bring the same spark he showed in Leverkusen’s attack last season.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma during a media chat, Boniface said he is not bothered by negative comments surrounding his form.

“Like I said, the media says a lot of things. When you don’t score, then people want to talk, but trust me, you don’t know anything about me. I’ve seen things, but I am strong, and anybody who knows me knows that I am a strong guy; those things don’t really affect me,” he said.

His manager, Horst Steffen, also challenged him to raise his performance levels following Bremen’s 1-1 draw with Mainz at the weekend. “He tried to hold onto the ball up front. Today I thought to myself: Come on, he can do even better,” Steffen told reporters after the game.
