Barcelona Confirm Pedri Hamstring Injury
Spanish La Liga giants, FC Barcelona, have confirmed that midfielder Pedri suffered a torn hamstring in his left thigh during last weekend’s El Clásico against Real Madrid.
The club made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, adding that his return will depend on how quickly he recovers.
“The first team player, Pedri, has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh. The player’s recovery will dictate his return to action,” the club said.
Reports from Spanish journalist Javi Miguel suggest that the 21-year-old creative youngster will be out for around three weeks, which means he is unlikely to feature again before the November international break. Earlier reports from Cadena SER had estimated his recovery period could stretch to five weeks.
Pedri has been one of Hansi Flick’s most trusted players this season, starting all 13 games and scoring twice, once against Levante and again in the victory over Girona. Before this setback, he had missed just one match under Flick, playing 72 of a possible 73 games.
The injury comes at a tough time for Barcelona, who are juggling La Liga and Champions League fixtures. They are currently sitting second behind Real Madrid in the league table.
