Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Gives Injury Update On Alisson Ahead Of Chelsea Clash
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted it is “difficult” to predict when goalkeeper Alisson Becker will return from injury after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring problem in Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.
Reports had suggested Alisson, 33, could be sidelined for around six weeks, potentially ruling him out until after the November international break. However, Slot was unwilling to confirm a timeline, stressing that the goalkeeper’s recovery will be closely monitored.
“It depends on how fast his recovery goes,” Slot said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea. “So, Saturday it’s clear he’s injured, he’s not going to play for Brazil and I would be surprised if he would be there in the first game after the international break.
“But from there on, sometimes things can go a bit faster or a bit slower. It’s always difficult to say the number of days and weeks, but for the upcoming games he will not be part of the US or the Brazil team.”
In Alisson’s absence, summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start between the posts at Stamford Bridge. The Georgian joined Liverpool from Valencia for £29m and is now set for his biggest test since arriving at Anfield.
Despite last weekend’s loss to Crystal Palace, Liverpool remains top of the Premier League and could be boosted by the returns of striker Hugo Ekitike and winger Federico Chiesa, who are both scheduled to train on Friday.
