The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has responded to recent allegations targeting former Jigawa State Governor and PDP founding member, Sule Lamido, by the Northern Youths Movement (NYM).

The accusations were reportedly linked to an article titled “You were part of the rebellion against PDP in 2014,” allegedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

This claim has stirred frustration among PDP supporters in Jigawa and across Nigeria, prompting a robust rebuttal from party leaders.

In a statement, Jigawa PDP leader Muhammad Mago condemned the article, calling it a misrepresentation aimed at tarnishing Dr. Lamido’s reputation.

Mago claimed the smear campaign was orchestrated by Wike to create division within the PDP.

According to Mago, the NYM’s statement was “a malicious attempt to smear Lamido’s image,” adding that Wike’s alleged actions are a sign of “Draconian politics” and betrayal of the PDP.

He argued that Wike’s acceptance of a ministerial role under the APC was a clear departure from PDP loyalty.

Mago emphasized that Lamido, a staunch party supporter and a former Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Olusegun Obasanjo, is widely respected for his dedication to the PDP, serving as Jigawa’s governor from 2007 to 2015.

He added that Lamido remains committed to national interests and will not engage in Wike’s alleged provocations.

The PDP leader also refuted claims from NYM that Lamido imposed his son, Mustapha, as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the last election, asserting that Mustapha earned the nomination based on merit and rigorous campaigning.

Calling on the public to ignore the “malicious” article, Mago urged recognition of Lamido’s long-standing commitment to the PDP and his influential role in resolving national political crises, including his contributions to President Obasanjo’s leadership and in stabilizing Nigeria after President Umar Musa Yar’Adua’s passing.

The PDP chapter reaffirmed its support for Lamido, appreciating his efforts to strengthen the party nationwide and build a lasting legacy for the PDP.
