PDP Sets Up Appeal Panels For Primaries
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted appeal panels to address petitions and complaints arising from its recently conducted primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly (NASS) and state assembly positions.
Naija News reports that the party said the panels were set up to promote transparency, fairness and internal democracy in its electoral process.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.
Mohammed said the panels would hear appeals from aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.
He said, “The appeal panels will hear and review appeals from contestants and stakeholders who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.
“They will also make recommendations in line with the party’s Constitution, Electoral Guidelines and relevant provisions of the law.”
The publicity secretary said the move underscored the party’s commitment to credible candidate selection processes ahead of forthcoming elections.
According to him, the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, will chair the governorship and presidential appeals panel.
Samuel Anyanwu was also listed as a member of the panel. Mohammed said Suleiman Afolagbe will chair the state and National Assembly appeals panel.
The nine-member state and National Assembly appeals panel will sit on June 8 and June 9 at the National Working Committee Hall of the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
He added that the 24-member governorship and presidential appeals panel will meet on June 10 at the same venue.
