The Nigerian Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau, has urged the Falconets to qualify for the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets are currently in the second round of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualification series. They will play the first leg of the round against Tanzania.

A week after the first leg, the two under-20 teams will meet in Abuja for the second leg of the round as they compete to make it to Colombia for the World Cup in 2024.

Ahead of the first leg in Dar es Salaam, Ibrahim Gusau urged the players to give it their all to book a place at the tournament.

Gusau who visited the girls in Abuja on Thursday said, “Your first port of call is Tanzania, but your destination is Colombia, where the World Cup will take place next year. You must have it in mind that this is only the beginning of the journey. I do not doubt that you will conquer Tanzania and go ahead to qualify for the World Cup finals.

“Our country has never failed to qualify for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup since the competition started more than 20 years ago, and I am sure you girls will not want to be the first set to be associated with failure. Therefore, you must put in extra effort, listen to your coaches, and play to instructions.”

The 2024 Under-20 Women’s World Cup is expected to commence on September 22, 2024, and it is expected to feature 24 countries for the first time in the history of the tournament.
