2027 Poll: Stakeholders Urges FG To Delegate INEC Chairman Appointment To Non-Partisan Committee

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reiterated its readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections at the off-cycle governorship election scheduled to hold this weekend.

Giving this assurance while appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi detailed that all materials were on ground in the three states and that the commission had deployed over 46,000 staff to the states ahead of the Saturday’s election.

“As of now we are excatly where we would like to be, all materials are on ground in the three states. We are deploying over 46,000 staff that have been trained both Adhoc staff and our staff,” he said.

Naija News reports that his comment comes just as the country gears towards the off-cycle governorship elections scheduled to take place in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo on Saturday.

Oyekanmi further reassured Nigerians that the commission will electronically transmit election results during the poll. His comment comes as political analysts continue to pre-empt low voter turnout following INEC’s failure to electronically transmit result during the general election that held between February and March 2023.

The election umpire however assured Nigerians that it was committed to conducting a free, credible and fair election at the off-cycle elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa.
