A combined task team of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a one-week ultimatum to illegal squatters and metal scrap traders operating in the Apo-Dutse area.

The order was issued by the Director of the FCT Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima.

Galadima explained that the decision was taken in response to an intelligence assessment highlighting issues related to several robberies and unrest in the area.

The FCT director disclosed that the den of the metal scrap traders had previously been demolished by the immediate past administration but the scrap dealers came back to the land.

He advised the squatters to leave since the administration’s bulldozers would be levelling the area in seven days, advising the squatters to start to remove their valuables before then.

Galadima added that the place had been allocated for residential purposes, noting that the team will clear the place for the owners to commence development immediately or risk revocation.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Command and Control, FCTA, Dr Peter Olumuji, said that the task force has been receiving report of different types of criminal activities, attacking the Estate, stealing things from them, adding that once they clear the area it reduces the crime rate in the District.
