President Bola Tinubu has sent a delegation to Ogun for an assessment of the devastation done to properties in Isheri community in the Ifo local government area of the state.

Naija News reports that the delegation includes the Minister of State for Environment, Isiaq Salako and his Water Resources and Sanitation counterpart, Prof. Joseph Utsev.

The ministers visited the troubled community in the company of Governor Dapo Abiodun and other government officials.

Abiodun had on Monday declared a state of emergency in the community where many residents have been sacked due to the flooding.

Speaking during the visit on Wednesday, the ministers assured the residents of a permanent solution to the flood challenge ravaging the Isheri community.

Salako noted that plans were on the way to find a permanent solution to the perennial flood often experienced by the Isheri community.

He said, “The President is aware of this problem, he fully understands where the problem is and he has been very proactive in addressing the problem. I am aware that the problem is topmost in the heart of the state governor. I believe that we will find a permanent solution to the problem.

“We should understand what we need to do with Ogun River, the dams; how do we ensure that we expand our drainage and lift our roads and our people to change their habits and be more environmentally responsible.”

On his part, Utsev said, “A team already sent to assess the flooding situation in Isheri have gone round and have observed salient challenges. We are providing solution to flooding in the entire Nigeria , not only in Ogun. We are believing that the solution has come.”

Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the formulation of drainage master plan as a major initiative to address longstanding drainage issues in the area.

He appreciated the President for responding swiftly to the state’s call for help.
