Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, met Rwandan President, Paul Kagame at the presidential palace in Kigali on Sunday.

Naija News reports that Rema linked up with Kegame after attending the 2023 Trace Music Awards in Kigali on Saturday, where he won the Global African Artist of the Year and Song of the Year with ‘Calm Down’.

Speaking during his visit to the President, the music star said the country gives him a sense of belonging, and he can rest without travelling overseas.

He said, “Coming to Rwanda, it gives me that vibe of a place I can rest and feel at home without having to travel overseas.

“A lot of time we just want to take that break, we just want to lay back… I feel like with here, we can have serene energy, that vibe. And I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting.

“I must say thank you so much, Mr President.”

If Music Didn’t Work, I Will Still Be Making Money

Meanwhile, Rema has claimed he would still be making money if music isn’t working for him.

Naija News reports that in an interview with Korty EO, Rema said he was financially buoyant even while doing freestyles and posting on social media, before the Mavin Record Label boss, Don Jazzy, discovered him.

The ‘Calm Down’ crooner said he wasn’t doing the freestyles because of the financial benefits.

He added he would still hustle and make money if music didn’t work.
