Tinubu Presides Over First FEC meeting In 2024

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly set to hold a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, tomorrow, Monday, 16th October, 2023.

The expected FEC meeting would be the second in the history of the Tinubu presidency after the inaugural meeting on 28th August after the new Ministers were sworn in on August 21 at the Conference Hall, State House, Abuja.

However, according to The Nation, barring any last-minute changes, President Tinubu would preside over a FEC meeting tomorrow.

The source quoted said: “It is holding tomorrow, at least that’s the last I heard and likelihood of any change is really slim. Mr President will be presiding over the FEC for the second time. It should start by 12pm and ministers are expected to have arrived before that time.

“As to what might be on the agenda, I don’t know, but I suspect they will be ratifying some of the approvals already granted some ministries by Mr President. At least I can remember the in the last few days he approved some projects and policies for Works and FCT ministries.”

Although under previous administrations, FEC meeting was held on Wednesdays, it appears that Tinubu is changing the Wednesday cabinet meeting to Monday.

Why Tinubu Is Yet To Convene FEC Meeting

Recently, the Presidency gave the reason President Bola Tinubu has not convened the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting days after the inaugural cabinet session.

Recall that the president inaugurated 45 ministers who attended the maiden cabinet meeting held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on August 28.

However, days after the inaugural meeting, the President’s failure to preside over any FEC meeting has continued to raise questions about Tinubu’s capacity to lead the country.

Speaking on the development, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, said it is not an issue because there is no specific time for the FEC meeting.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Abdulaziz asserted that President Tinubu had a different idea of the functions of the FEC, adding the fact that the meetings have not been held does not stop governance.
