The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has met with rescued students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

Naija News reports that two weeks ago, some gunmen suspected to be terrorists kidnapped some students of the school.

The gunmen, who had invaded the students’ hostel at Sabon-Gida, identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida, abducted an unidentified number of students.

The Nigerian Army, however, disclosed the rescue of six of the students hours after the incident after a gun battle with the kidnappers.

On Thursday, the minister met with the rescued victims in Zamfara and reaffirmed the Bola Tinubu government’s commitment to rescue all the remaining captives unhurt.

Giving an update on the matter, the state police command spokesman, Yezid Abubakar, also confirmed that not all of the kidnapped students were rescued by the Army.

Also confirming the rescue of the students, a relative of one of the victims told SaharaReporters that some of the female students had been rescued but could not give a number.

A source in the university students’ union had also said the union had identified no fewer than 30 students who were abducted by terrorists during the invasion.
