Breaking: D'Tigress Kicked Out Of 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup

Nigerian women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress to compete with the United States, Senegal, and Belgium in Tournament 2 of the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The draws for the tournament took place in Hungary on Thursday, October 4, 2023, and the action will start rolling out in Antwerp, Belgium, from February 8, 2024.

D’Tigress, the reigning  African champions, who are now ranked 11th in the world, are attempting to join the United States, who have already qualified as the 2022 World Cup winners.

There are still 10 Olympic tickets up for grabs since France have automatically qualified for being the hosts and the United States have taken a slot out of the possibly 12.

Even though they have both qualified for the Olympics, they will still participate in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

According to a decision made by the FIBA Central Board on September 9, the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be held in four cities: Antwerp, Belgium; Belem, Brazil; Sopron, Hungary; and a city that will be confirmed in China.

In the opening match, France will compete against China, New Zealand, and a-yet-to-be-determined contenders from the Americas – Colombia, Venezuela, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

In tournament 3, Brazil, Germany, Serbia, and Australia will compete for a place in the Olympics.

Spain, Hungary, Japan, and another team from the Americas will be vying for one of the tickets.
