Organised Labour Leaders Arrive Presidential Villa For Another Meeting With Tinubu Govt (Photo)

Organised labour leaders have arrived at the State House in Abuja for the second leg of meetings with representatives of the federal government.

Naija News reports that the leaders of organised labour included Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other leaders of labour unions.

The meeting is a continuation of the four-hour sit-down held on Sunday by both parties to avert the planned nationwide indefinite strike by the labour to protest the economic hardship in the country.

During the meeting, organised labour asked for 100 percent of the current minimum wage and rejected President Bola Tinubu’s N25,000 Provisional wage increment for the average low-grade worker.

The organized workers also rejected the government’s proposed six months of Provisional wage increase and the N15 million additional Conditional Cash Transfer for vulnerable households

Labour also insisted that the provisional wage should be for all workers and that it will not be limited to only six months but rather be running till the new minimum wage is approved next year.

The organised labour also insisted that the Conditional Cash Transfer for the poorest and vulnerable people should be increased to N25,000 and not the ₦5,000 the previous administration was paying.

The government team is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Other members of the government team include the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, the Minister of State, Nkeiruka Onyejecha, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Beta Edu.

Also present are some directors from the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
