1. ‘Why Tinubu’s Meeting With American President, Joe Biden Was Cancelled’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why President Bola Tinubu didn’t meet with President Joe Biden of the United States during the recently concluded United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York.

The party narrated that the two leaders had met at the G-20 Nations summit in India, before the gathering of world leaders in New York, hence there was no need for a fresh meeting.

The APC in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka added that contrary to widespread speculations, there was no agenda of a meeting between Tinubu and Biden in New York on the President’s schedule.

It also responded to claims by the media aide to the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu that the Tinubu government was peddling falsehood.

In the statement, the ruling party also said fuel subsidy has not returned but the Tinubu administration only intervened in order to ensure stability.

On the UAE visa saga, the APC assured that discussions are ongoing and details will be made public soon.

2. FG Declares Public Holiday

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government has declared Wednesday, September 27th, as a public holiday.

The government declared Wednesday, September 27 as a public holiday in commemoration of Eil-ul- Maulid celebration, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him.)

The Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on Monday night in Abuja on behalf of the government.

The Minister, in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, congratulated Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora for witnessing this year’s occasion.

3. Tribunal Gives Verdict In PDP’s Petition Against APC, Sanwo-Olu

he Lagos Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate, Olajide Adediran against the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.
The tribunal also upheld the election of Governor Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat.

The tribunal declared that Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy are eminently qualified to contest the March 18 governorship election in the state under section 177 of the Constitution.

Justice Mikhail Abdullahi stated this while delivering judgment in the petition filed against their election by the PDP candidate, Olajide Adediran a. a.k.a. Jandor.

The judge noted that they are members of political parties and educated up to school certificate level.

4. Gov. Lawal Accuses Tinubu Govt Of Meeting Secretly With Bandits In Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, on Monday, accused the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of secretly meeting with bandit groups in the state.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor said some government agencies engaged in negotiations with bandits without the knowledge of the state government and other security agencies.

Lawal, therefore, called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation by the Tinubu government into the secretive negotiations held with bandits in the state by the agencies.

He also called on the federal government to clarify the action of these federal agencies, which he said it is clearly at variance with the State Government’s adoption of a kinetic strategy in the fight against banditry.

5. Fire Guts Supreme Court Building

A fire outbreak on Monday morning occurred at the Supreme Court of Nigeria at Three Arms Zone in Abuja, destroying some parts of the federal institution.

Naija News gathered that the mysterious fire burnt down the offices of some justices and forced some occupants of the building to scamper for safety.

The Public Relations Officer for the Court, Festus Akande, who spoke to Channels Television, said the cause of the fire was electrical from one of the Chambers of the Justices and was put out with the use of fire extinguishers.

Akande added that the stories making the rounds on social media that there are casualties are “fake news”.

6. Nigerians Will Soon Know What Happened In CBN – FG

President Bola Tinubu-led government on Monday stated that Nigerians will soon know what went wrong in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and affected the economy.

The Federal Government revealed this while stating that the audit report of the apex bank will soon be ready.

According to the Federal Government, most of the problems faced by Nigeria are caused by bad governance from the nation’s leadership.

The government commended President Tinubu over his decision to audit the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Recall that President Tinubu in a letter dated July 28, 2023, named the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Jim Obazee, as the special investigator for the CBN.

The President asked the Special Investigator to investigate CBN and key Government Business Entities, adding that the investigator would report directly to the President’s office.

7. Tinubu Asks Court To Release Certificate To Atiku, Not Transcript, Gender, Others

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked a federal judge in the United States to direct Chicago State University (CSU) to give only his university certificate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Tinubu, through his lawyers on Monday, asked Judge Nancy Maldonado to block all other details, especially the gender and admission records, among others, of the person who owns the certificate from being disclosed.

Naija News understands that the identity of who was admitted into Chicago State University in the 1970s has been controversial after CSU transcripts emerged that indicated the school admitted a female Bola Tinubu from Southwest College Chicago in 1977.

Recall that Tinubu, through his lawyers, had asked Ms Maldonado to delay the order of Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, a magistrate, that ordered the university to release his academic records to Atiku.

Tinubu asked the judge to save him from suffering severe and irreparable damage by placing an emergency hold on a recent order for his university records to be released.

According to the President, the damage he would suffer would be impossible to mitigate if the order directing the release of his academic records to Atiku is not delayed for possible vacation.

8. FG Releases Programmes For 63rd Independence Day Anniversary

The Bola Tinubu-led federal government has unveiled the programme of events for the country’s 63rd Independence Day Anniversary celebration scheduled for October 1st.

Unveiling the programme of events in Abuja on Monday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said the theme of this year’s celebration is “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity and Prosperity.”

He said President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a modest celebration this year due to the current economic realities in the country, saying that the government is working with organised Labour and other stakeholders to bring succour to all citizens.

Speaking on the programme lined out for the Anniversary, Akume said the events started with the World Press Conference on Monday, September 26, at the National Press Center, Radio House in Abuja.

He said an anniversary lecture will be held on Friday, 29th September 2023, at the National Mosque Conference Center in Abuja, and Juma’at Prayer to be held at the National Mosque.

The SGF stated that a national broadcast by President Tinubu on Sunday, October 1, will be held, and an Inter-Denominational Church Service will also held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.

9. Ondo Deputy Gov, Aiyedatiwa Seeks Court Order To Halt Impeachment Plans

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has requested a court order to stop the State House of Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment proceedings against him.

Naija News reports that Aiyedatiwa, in suit No. AK/348/2023, filed at the High Court in Akure on Monday, is requesting the court to, among other things, stop the House of Assembly from impeaching him because it is not competent.

In a letter dated September 25, 2023, from the Chambers of Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) and Co. and delivered to the office of the Chief Judge of Ondo State, copies of the court processes were duly attached for the information of the Chief Judge.

Aiyedatiwa also sought orders of injunction to stop the House of Assembly from initiating, continuing, or proceeding with the process of his removal from office as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

He is also praying the court stop the Chief Judge of Ondo State from accepting or acting upon any request from the House of Assembly of Ondo State to set up any panel to investigate any acts of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor.

According to him, the impeachment move is in breach of his constitutional and fundamental rights to fair hearing and that the sacking of his media aides and subjecting him to the Ministry of Information headed by a Commissioner amounts to a breach of his rights and privileges as a Deputy Governor.

The Ondo deputy governor is also seeking a declaration that his office, tenure, status, rights and privileges are protected, guaranteed and secured by the Constitution, and the declaration that in the determination of his civil rights and obligations as a Deputy Governor of Ondo State by the House of Assembly, he is entitled to a fair hearing and that given the utterances and conduct of the House of Assembly so far, there is likelihood of bias against him in the impeachment process.

Aiyedatiwa accused the House Assembly of constituting itself into accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge while berating them for conducting media trials against him without serving him with any notice of gross misconduct.

10. FG Will Soon Conclude Wage Award To Workers — Lalong Tells NLC

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong on Monday stated that the Federal Government will soon conclude the issue of wage award.

Lalong stated this as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) plan to embark on an indefinite strike across the country.

The Minister stated this when he received Alhaji Ibikunle Baruwa who led a team of four members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Baruwa had visited him to appreciate the minister for securing the release of some of its members, who were arrested two weeks ago by government agents.

Lalong appreciated the visit and sued for peace between the two factions of the NURTW.
