How Chelsea Defeated Liverpool Twice In The Transfer Market

Liverpool have been having it tough in the transfer market especially against Chelsea which seem to have won the hearts of most youngsters in England.

Just after losing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo to Chelsea after the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder joined the Blues for a British record £115m, Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia has chosen the Blues over Liverpool.

Recall that Chelsea have been at the forefront of signing the Ecuadorian international before Liverpool came into the picture from almost nowhere.

Since May, Chelsea have reportedly agreed on personal terms with Caicedo while they continued to battle with Brighton on an ideal transfer fee.

Chelsea made over three different bids for the midfielder but the Seagulls rejected the bid only to accept Liverpool’s £111 million bid which would have been a British record transfer fee.

However, Caicedo insisted on joining Chelsea which inspired the Blues to make a record £115 million bid for the midfielder which Brighton have accepted and Caicedo is now a Chelsea player officially.

While Chelsea were battling to sign Caicedo, they were also battling to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton as they needed two midfielders this summer.

They have also made three bids for the 19-year-old Belgian midfielder who have four years remaining in his current contract with Southampton, but the Championship side turned down the bid as they wanted nothing less than £50 million for the midfielder.

Then, Liverpool showed up with a bid worth £60 million which Southampton accepted and the Premier League giants were ready to start negotiating with Lavia on personal terms. But the Belgium international turned them down in favour of Chelsea.

As it stands, Chelsea are now prepared to pay the £50 million that Southampton were demanding including add-ons and £10 million of that will go to Manchester City, who sold Lavia to Southampton in 2022 and included a sell-on clause on his contract.

Hence, it is two for Chelsea, and zero for Liverpool as the Stamford Bridge club continue with their captivating rebuilding process.
