My Govt Remains Committed To Improving Power Sector

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s energy and power sector, saying that it is in line with his campaign promise to increase power generation beyond the current 12,000MW.

The President made this known on Friday during the groundbreaking of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) 350MW first phase of the 1350MW Gwagwalada Independent Power Project (GIPP) in Abuja.

In his address at the ceremony, President Tinubu stated that the power project would address power value chain challenges, and remove all distribution bottlenecks which are in line with his campaign manifesto.

Naija News reports that the GIPP project is led by NNPC Ltd. in a joint venture with China Machinery and Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the EPC, and General Electric (GE) for the Long Term Service Agreement, and is designed to provide reliable electricity, strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector, and accelerate economic growth.

The GIPP project will sit on an already acquired 54.7hectares of land in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and is one of the critical power generation projects along the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline corridor which is at 70% completion.
