Senate Grills Olawale Edun For Ministerial Appointment

The Nigeria Senate on Tuesday grilled Adebayo Olawale Edun, for ministerial appointment under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Naija News reports that the Senate resumed the screening of the ministerial nominees today with the parliamentary privilege of “take a bow and go”.

During the screening process, Edun received several commendations from senators at the plenary session. However, the Ministerial nominee was grilled on how he planned to improve the monetary policy of Nigeria if given the position of a minister in that capacity.

Among those who spoke positively of the nominee is the former governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniels.

In his remark, Daniels showered praises on Edun, saying, ‘This is a man that we proud about. He is one of best in his generation.”

Also, Edun was asked to state how he intends to regulate the current foreign exchange and also if he has a plan to separate the office of the Attorney General of the Federation from the station Attorneys for a proper and easy accounting process.

In one of his responses to the several questions asked by lawmakers, Edun said: “The economy is going through pain, and that is why President Tinubuis trying to protect the poor. We need to support this process to move this country to the right place it belongs.”

Among other questions asked Edun is how he intends to help the federal government distribute to Nigerians, especially those who do not have bank accounts, the palliative promised to them to cushion the effect of the removed fuel subsidy.

Naija News reports that Edun has a background in merchant banking, corporate finance, economics, and international finance at national and international levels.

Edun is the Chair of ChapelHillDenham Group, Lagos, a leading investment bank. He was an executive director of Lagos merchant bank, Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited, now Stanbic IBTC.

The ministerial nominee is the founder and Chair of Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, a registered not-for-profit organization that runs amateur boxing in Lagos in conjunction with the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association.

He is also the Chair of Livewell Initiative, a not-for-profit organization specializing in health literacy advocacy and practical training in Nigeria, and a Trustee of Sisters Unite for Children, a not-for-profit institution that focuses on helping street children in Lagos.

Edun is the president of Repton, a long-established amateur boxing club based in London’s East End.
