Switzerland have knocked out the co-hosts of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, New Zealand, as they ended their game on Sunday, July 30, in a goalless draw.

While Norway slammed the Philippines 6-0 in the second game of Group A, New Zealand who failed to defeat Switzerland who needed a draw to qualify for the next round, ended their 2023 Women’s World Cup journey in the Group stage.

The co-hosts finished in third place with four points in three games, after one win, one draw, and a defeat. While Switzerland finished top of the group with 5 points in three games after registering a win and two draws.

On the other hand, Former world champions Norway handily defeated the Philippines and advanced to the round of 16 of the 2023 Women’s World Cup thanks to Sophie Haug’s hat-trick.

Hege Riise’s struggling squad was in severe danger of finishing last in a group they were predicted to comfortably win after dropping points in their first two games and having their star player Caroline Graham Hansen protest the choice to remove her from the lineup.

After a terrible start to the tournament, Norway defeated their helpless opponents, the Philippines, 6-0 in Auckland’s Eden Park to finish second in Group A and knock out the Philippines from the tournament.

Aside from the overwhelming victory, Hansen who protested her exclusion from the starting lineup earlier in the tournament started against the Philippines.

In the second round of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Spain or Japan will now play Norway in Wellington on August 5, depending on who wins Group C.
