Deliberately Misinterpreting And Sensationalizing – Lagos Govt Speaks On Burying 103 #Endsars Victims

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has described as deliberate misinterpretion and sensationalization reports that he approved the mass burial of at least 103 protesters who were ‘massacred’ by joint forces of the Nigerian Army and the police during the October 20, 2020 protest against police brutality tagged #EndSARS at the Lekki toll gate

According to a letter and dated July 19 by the public procurement agency, the state government engaged the service of Messrs Tos Funeral Ltd, a private firm.

The government engaged the firm at the cost of N61,285,000 to bury 103 bodies which were identified to be victims of the killings.

APC Crisis: Oyetola Out Of Race, Joins Akande In Search For Omisore’s Successor

Barring any last-minute change of heart, former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has dropped out of the race to replace Senator Iyiola Omisore as the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the resignation of Adamu Abdullahi and Oyetola as National Chairman and Secretary, respectively, Oyetola was tipped to replace the Osun State politician.

In a bid not to lose the position to another state, the party, led by Chief Bisi Akande and Oyetola, is pushing for the immediate past spokesperson of the Senate, Ajibola Basiru, to replace Omisore.

Shettima Departs Abuja, To Represent Tinubu At UN, Russia-Africa Summits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be attending the United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit in Rome as well as the Russia-Africa Summit.

Instead, Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Tinubu at the two international events, according to a statement released on Sunday by his spokesman, Olusola Abiola.

The statement said Shettima is scheduled to depart Abuja on Sunday for the two major international Summits in Rome, Italy and St Petersburg, Russia.

Despite denying any killing on multiple occasions, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has allegedly approved the mass burial of at least 103 protesters who were ‘massacred’ by joint forces of the Nigerian Army and the police during the October 20, 2020 protest against police brutality tagged #EndSARS at the Lekki toll gate.

Following the numerous crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senators elected on its platform have lamented what they refer to as the level of injustice they are suffering in the 10th National Assembly.

While revealing that the PDP had no say in selecting the Senate Minority Leader, the lawmakers noted that their situation was worse because the party was not there to come to their aid.

Speaking to The PUNCH, a senator from the Northeast said, “The PDP lawmakers are very helpless in this administration of the 10th Assembly.

“Public Accounts committee was given to the Social Democratic Party that has just two members. This has never happened before.”

Indications have emerged that the Senate and House of Representatives will on Thursday announce its remaining standing committees.

Naija News reports that Thursday will be the last plenary before the lawmakers proceed on their annual vacation.

Lawmakers have revealed that choosing to announce the remaining committee chairpersons and members that day is to prevent aggrieved members from protesting.

A lawmaker noted that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the leadership deliberately decided to announce the committees’ chairmanship on the last day of plenary so that the lawmakers would be without a choice and by the end of the holiday, the tension would have died down.

Akpabio To Announce Ministerial Nominees This Week

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio is expected to announce the ministerial nominees at a plenary session this week, ending a two-month wait following President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration.

An amendment to the 1999 Constitution demands that the President and governors disclose the names of minister and commissioner nominees within 60 days of taking the oath of office for Senate or state Houses of Assembly confirmation.

This puts the deadline for President Tinubu and 28 governors to release their respective lists of nominees by the end of this month.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of playing politics by abandoning Federal Roads in the state.

Naija News reports that the governor made this known following a viral video showing his convoy stuck in a flooded road along the Benin-Sapele road.

Reacting in a statement to Naija News on Sunday, Obaseki’s Special Adviser, Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, accused the federal government of refusing to heed advice and warning signals.

‘You Have Been A Disaster To Edo People’ – APC Fires Obaseki

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Governor Godwin Obaseki as a disaster, saying that his performance in the state has been woeful.

Speaking in an interview with reporters on Sunday, the state Secretary of the party, Lawrence Okah, said Obaseki does not have any performance to point to in the last three years of his second tenure.

Okah said the state witnessed meaningful development during former Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration, adding no other performance has been recorded since then.

‘A New Kind Of Chief Of Army Staff’ – El-Rufai Hails Lagbaja As He Motivates Troops In Plateau

The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has said the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, will wipe out terrorism, banditry, vandalism and militancy in the country.

El-rufai stated this in a post via his Twitter handle on Saturday while reacting to Lagbaja’s motivational address to troops deployed to end Plateau killings.

The former Kaduna governor described Lagbaja as a new kind of Army Chief, who personally led troops to confront bandits in the state, and also waged war against Boko Haram in the North East and unknown gunmen in the South East.
