A fire at the palace of the Emir of Daura on Monday afternoon caused substantial damage, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

The fire reportedly raged for several hours, devastating a section of the palace occupied by the emir’s son, the Danburam of Daura, Prince Alhaji MuhammaduDaha Umar Farouq Umar.

No casualties were reported as the prince, who also serves as the district head of Baure, and his wife were not present during the fire.

“Nothing was taken out of the section that was not affected by the fire including the building structure. Fortunately no one was inside the house.

“A lot of valuable items were destroyed including vital documents in the house,” an unnamed source that spoke with Daily Trust reported.

The cause of the fire remains uncertain, although the emirate’s Public Relations Officer, Sarkin Labaru Usman Yaro, suspects it could be due to an electrical issue, as the house was closed when the fire started.

Yaro expressed gratitude to the fire service personnel and Daura residents for their efforts in extinguishing the blaze.
