INEC Speaks On Removing Imo REC Ahead Of Guber Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the governorship and state house of assembly elections in the Butura ward in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau.

Speaking during a press conference in Jos, the taste capital on Saturday, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oliver Agundu, said the postponement was due to a logistics problem.

Agundu said election materials such as ballot papers meant for the ward were taken to another local government in error.

The INEC official said in order not to disenfranchise members of the community, the election in the area would now hold on March 19.

He apologised for the inconveniences caused by the postponement and called on members of the community to come out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.

This development comes hours after the electoral body postponed the governorship and state assembly elections in 10 polling units in Victoria Garden City (VGC) estate in Lagos state.

Speaking with reporters, INEC REC for Lagos state, Segun Agbaje, said security concerns were raised by residents and the ad-hoc electoral officers deployed to the area.
