List Of ‘Commoners’ Who Won Elective Positions With Peter Obi ‘Effect’

Following the emergence of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi on the ballot paper in the just-concluded presidential and National Assembly elections, many first-timers with no political history and from humble backgrounds running under the LP were fortunate to clinch the ticket for their various constituencies.

Recall, Peter Obi in a bid to birth the ‘New Nigeria’ urged his supporters to vote massively for LP across all positions in the elections, which they (His supporters) obliged leading to the displacement/removal of some old politicians occupying the position for years.

Below are the candidates who rode on the wave of mass support for Peter Obi to be elected into office.

Benedict Etanabene

Benedict Etanabene of Labour Party won the House of Representatives election for Okpe, Sapele, Uvwie Federal Constituency of Delta state with 37,107  votes, he defeated the PDP’s Oboro, who got 29,917 & the APC’s Baro with 22,388 votes

The former staff of the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun defeated a former two-term member of the House of Representatives and PDP candidate, Evelyn Oboro and APC candidate, Mr Henry Baro.

With Etanabene’s declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Labour Party in Delta State has won two seats in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.

Donatus Matthew

The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr Donatus Mathew, an okada rider, was declared the winner of the Kaura federal constituency of Kaduna State after he polled a total of 10,508 to defeat the incumbent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Gideon Lucas Gwani, who came second, with a total vote of 10, 297 votes.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the declaration of the winner, the member-elect, Mr. Donatus Mathew, thanked the electorates for the confidence reposed in him to represent them at the Federal level.

Donatus solicited support and cooperation from the people and pledged to carry everyone along to achieve desired success.

Lilian Orogbu

Prof Lilian Orogbu of Labour party was declared the winner of Awka North & South federal constituency of Anambra for House of Representative. She is a lecturer at Nnamdi  Azikiwe University University Awka and also one of the youngest House of representatives members.

Chimaobi Sam Atu

A candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chimaobi Sam Atu, was declared winner of Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency election conducted on Saturday, February 25.

Chimaobi, who was a community vigilante member under the growing influence of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, polled a total of 65,247 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nonso Nnamani of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who scored 9,215 votes to come second.

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) through its returning officer for the constituency, Evelyn Ezepue declared Sam Atu, winner of the election in the constituency.

Thaddeus Atta

Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Eti-Osa, Thaddeus Atta won the constituency seat in the federal parliament.

Atta was declared the winner of the February 25 election after he polled 24,075 votes in the election knocking off Bankole ‘Banky W’ Wellington, the musician who polled 18,668 votes.

Atta’s like others victory comes as Labour Party continues to win heavily across Lagos, all largely on the back of its presidential candidate Peter Obi.
