Tragedy As Two Women Suffer Gunshot Injuries In Bayelsa
Two women have sustained gunshot injuries during violence that broke out in Ofoni Ward in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Naija News learned that Ofoni is the hometown of the Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
An eyewitness, who is a voter at the polling unit, told Daily Trust on Sunday that three irate youths from the community had shot a lady over some misunderstanding, which stalled the election process in the area.
The eyewitness claimed that the bullet hit another middle-aged woman who was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Two of the three thugs, who masterminded the uproar, were said to have been apprehended by the crowd and handed over to security personnel.
INEC Cancels Election In 141 Polling Units In Bayelsa
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended elections in 141 polling units of Bayelsa state over the account of violence.
According to the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, the exercise was postponed in the affected polling units because the voting process was disrupted.
The INEC chairman made this known on Saturday while briefing journalists at the National Collation Center, Abuja, on the ongoing general election.
