Atiku Slams Sowore Over Comment On National Grid Collapse

The African Action Congress, (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his new stance on the Naira crisis ravaging the country.

Naija News earlier reported that Atiku appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to allow commercial banks to accept deposits of the old Naira notes.

Recall that since the February 10 deadline for the Naira swap policy elapsed, Atiku, who backed the currency redesign policy, advised the apex bank not to extend the deadline.

According to the former vice president, a further extension would destroy the purpose and objective of the policy.

However, Atiku on Sunday shifted his stance on the Naira redesign policy, stating it is hurting Nigerians and those that legitimately earned their money.

He also demanded that the new currency should be immediately made available in sufficient quantities to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

The PDP flagbearer further assured Nigerians that he would ensure no one loses his legitimately earned money as a result of the CBN policy if elected president in the forthcoming election.

Sowore Reacts

In a post via Twitter on Monday, Sowore said Atiku was opportunistic and thought he could capitalize on the poverty-inducing Naira redesign policy to win the presidential election.

Sowore alleged that the Naira redesign policy was a fraud targeted at hurting poor Nigerians adding Atiku is coming to sell Nigeria’s assets.

He wrote: “Opportunistic @atiku thought he could capitalise on the poverty-inducing Naira Design to win election. Any real leader would have known that ‘naira design’ fraud was gonna […] hurt poor Nigerians. Reason I keep saying there is no difference. He’s coming to sell everything.”
