Nathan Jones Says He Can Still Save Bottom-Placed Southampton

The manager of the relegation-threatened Southampton, Nathan Jones has asserted that despite Southampton’s subpar performance, he “genuinely” believes he can keep them in the Premier League.

Nathan Jones has led Southampton to the bottom of the Premier League standings after he and the club recorded six defeats in seven league games.

This means that the manager has managed to avoid just a defeat since he became the club’s coach in November 2022.

Last Saturday, Nathan Jones and his players launched themselves into February with a stunning 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford.

Ahead of a Premier League clash between Southampton and Wolves scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 11, Jones claimed that since taking over, he had let his players down.

He however noted on Thursday that he doesn’t get “pressured from anyone” even though his team is currently 4 points below safety.

He added: “I was being accused of trying to shift blame for Southampton’s miserable run. Actually, I was categorically acting in the other way.

“I was accepting responsibility for all the results. What I said was I’ve compromised certain things I do on a day-to-day basis, which are my decisions.

“What we have to do is make sure we get results and get results quickly. We’ve been very close on several occasions but we have to really focus on this weekend and make sure we get the result.

“I genuinely believe that I can [keep Southampton up]”.
