Protesters have stormed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday in response to a supreme court decision regarding the expiration date for old naira notes.

Naija News earlier reported that a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court chaired by John Okoro suspended the February 10 ban on old naira notes.

The ex-parte application was submitted by the governors of the states of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara.

One of the leaders of the protesters, Obed Agu who spoke to newsmen in Abuja opined that President Muhammadu Buhari should issue an executive order maintaining the aforementioned date as the deadline for the use of old naira notes.

Adamu Garba Reacts To CBN Deadline On New Notes

A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has reacted to the judgement of the Supreme Court stopping the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the old naira notes deadline.

Garba, in a tweet via his Twitter account on Wednesday, said Nigerians no longer need to go and queue in the bank, adding that they can now keep their old naira notes and go about their businesses.

The APC chieftain also advised Nigerians not to fight or struggle for the new notes, because it will eventually reach everyone.

He wrote: “Dear Nigerians,

“You no longer need to go & queue in the bank, keep your old naira notes & go about your businesses. Don’t fight or struggle for the new notes, it’ll eventually reach you. You are finally free to use & keep your money whether old or new.

“Supreme Court said so.”

In another tweet, Garba said the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is the only one who genuinely cares about the feeling of ordinary people by calling for an extension of the old naira notes deadline.

He claimed that the agenda of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) is to grab political power at all costs, even to the detriment of Nigerians.

Garba wrote: “STOP the hypocrisy and SPOT the difference: The one who genuinely cares about the feeling of ordinary people, Bola Tinubu, and those, of Atiku & Peter Obi whose agenda is to grab political power at all costs, even to the detriment of Nigerians.

“Vote for Nigeria, Vote for Tinubu.”
