Five Persons Dead, Others In Critical Condition Over Commotion At New Year Party

Five persons have been confirmed dead while four others are in critical condition following a commotion that occurred at a new year party.

Naija News reports that the party was organized by a group of friends at Akinmori in the Afijio Local Government area of Oyo State.

According to PUNCH, an eyewitness said trouble started at the event when one of the organizers was scolded by his friends for driving recklessly into the venue of the party.

Despite the elders’ intervention, the young man angrily entered his car and zoomed into the dancing friend, knocking ten people down.

A source said: “The young man drove into the venue of the party on a high speed and was being scolded by his friends who were already at the venue of the party.

“After the intervention of some elders around, the young man entered his car reluctantly. Still angry at the confrontation, he vowed to spill blood. Then he started the car and and zoomed into the dancing friends, knocking down over 10 people.”

According to the aforementioned publication, the young man is currently on the run while three of his friends who were in the car with him have been arrested.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said an investigation has commenced on the matter.

He said: “Investigation has commenced into the matter. Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
